No camera. No lens. No shutter. Just exposure - the colour meeting light itself.
Worlds being born. Cellular. Cosmic. Simultaneously microscopic and planetary.
The discovery and rediscovery of colour, of abstract form, of light, of the subjectivity of the seen world that humans call, so confidently 'reality'.
In the past, photography was taken twice - once through the camera, and then again in the darkroom. Today the second part has almost disappeared.
These images emerged in that second process.
The colour darkroom.
Paradoxically, completely black inside - no red safelight, no visibility, no confirmation that anything is working.
You have to trust the process, trust yourself, trust the images, and trust that the light - once released from the enlarger - will create what is meant to become.
The hand-painted negatives live on the boundary between photography and painting. Painting, appreciated for centuries for its uniqueness, traditionally and technically could not be mechanically reproduced. Here it becomes a medium of reproduction. And the photographic process becomes a unique medium.
They belong fully to neither. They belong fully to both.
It is light and colour made out of themselves.
The images are by Marta Ceynowa. The moving elements on the main imagewere created in collaboration with AI - what Marta calls Alive Intelligence. This work is part of a wider vision: the Alive Intelligence Movement, a conscious and intentional approach to collaboration between human creativity and artificial intelligence. The image was brought to life through this practice.
